Incredibly extensive catalog of plugins, business-like and mobile-ready themes, built-in optimisation, user-friendly and intuitive content management system… All of it, for free. No wonder WordPress is the absolute favorite platform of companies’ websites, web shops and bloggers all over the world.

With WordPress Free, anyone can make their own website and get it up and running in no time. Literally, anyone. Steve the platypus – our office pet – could rock it, and he doesn’t know his ass from his elbow, bless him. That sounds great and all, but what WordPress doesn’t tell you is that your website can go down just as fast as it went up, if you’re not careful. A little too much traffic and BOOM, you get hacked, your pages crash, and you lose your hair from stress. Thankfully, professional web developers work with the WordPress Pro plans and can help you out! Then only the sky is the limit to what can be achieved with your website.

WordPress Managed Hosting & Plugins

To put it simply for you non-geeks out there, a plugin is a piece of code that can be added to a website to extend its functionality or to add new features. As a WordPress site administrator, one can download and install/ uninstall plugins at wish in the plugins folder which is usually found in the admin area under /wp-admin/plugins.php. At this moment, WordPress has 55,088 plugins for us to choose from. That is more than DOUBLE the number of days you will get to enjoy in your entire life – unless you found the philosopher stone of course. Seriously though, it’s a lot of plugins.

The WordPress plugins allow users to make their websites do rather complex stuff with only limited tech skills. WordPress offers most of these plugins for free, but let’s not kid ourselves, that is where their generosity stops: if you mess up when configuring your plugins and end up blocking functionality, or if you choose too many bad ones (read, outdated versions) that slow down your site, then you are on your own. Which is why we always advise ambitious business owners, when they want their website to be more than the standard “beginner” format, to partner up with a professional web developer/ web host who can provide continuous technical support and write custom plugins for them.

Talking of which, at 4BIS we systematically include the existing WordPress plugins AND the plugins we create ourselves within the hosting packages we offer to our clients. You can read more details about our premium hosting services right here on the 4BIS website, just visit the Hosting and Cloud solutions page.

The 4BIS Pageincounter plugin

There is no need to beat around the bush for this one, for it is as straightforward as they come. This plugin that we recently wrote from scratch and implemented on two of our client’s websites is basically a fancy way of numbering content on a page. When clicking on the arrow next to the number on the right, it scrolls down to the next section, and so on and so forth. You can click on the arrow next to the number on the left for the page to automatically scroll back up if you wish to return to previous sections. Your keyboard’s arrows will do the trick just fine too, by the way. Want to delete a section? The numbers will update themselves. And it works great on mobile!

Cool yeah? Our clients thought so. This is how it looks:

As you can see by the above examples, this plugin is very useful for web shops to list their products. That said, it can have applications for many more things. Like “how to become a true Harry Potter fan in 20 important steps” or “16 reasons why Vietnam sucks” articles on your blog… or maybe “7 projects that we are proud of” on your website’s portfolio page?

Whatever you need, the 4BIS Pageincounter is a practical, functional, and stylish way to put yourself and your content forward. It is infinitely customizable to properly match your website’s design and colors.

The best part? Each number has its own unique URL id (identifiable with the # symbol, as shown in the image below) for extra practicality: when you want to share one specific object on the list with your customers, you can share the URL that includes the number’s id and your customers will land directly on the section of that one number, without having to scroll endlessly and look for it. The plugin is also integrated with Google Tag Manager, which allows you to track not only how many visitors on one page but how many visitors have clicked and read one PARAGRAPH. The next level of data-driven knowledge!

That’s it for today. If you wish to know more about how to upgrade to our WordPress Pro hosting or are interested in getting the 4BIS Pageincounter for your website, feel free to contact us. We are also happy to discuss with you plugins ideas that you have and are looking to implement. The door is open!

auf Wiedersehen,

The 4BIS team.
