Symfony and WordPress 2 different systems but there are also enough similarities in this article I will give a few examples. Symfony has many more bundles than wordpress plugins. Symfony is more flexible while wordpress is easier to use. Symfony is for performance and wordpress for convenience. If you want to create a website faster than WordPress, use Symfony for a website with better data structures.
In previous articles we have already talked about symfony, a framework for PHP development. It is used for specialized software with lots of bells and whistles. But if you use symfony in the right way, you can also use it as a CMS. This is why Symfony is an interesting alternative to WordPress with different advantages and disadvantages. The purpose of this article is therefore to compare the pros and cons of these two systems.
First of all I want to talk about the ideas behind WordPress and Symfony as they are very different. WordPress was created as a CMS, which means that it can be used for different things without many adjustments. This is due to the themes and plugins and they ensure that you can create a website in a short time.
Symfony, on the other hand, was not developed for use as a CMS. The reason Symfony was created is to develop complex systems, reduce development time through reusable components, and give developers as much control as possible. These goals also fit well with a CMS, a lot of reusable code, a lot of control, a lot of extensibility. The way in which this is practically realized is through the mentioned in previous articles: components, bundles and templates.
Symfony bundels VS WordPress plug-ins
One of the interfaces between WordPress and Symfony is bundles/plugins. Bundles and plug-ins are broadly the same, bits of functionality developed by other people. A big difference is how many there are, for example around 300,000 bundles, compared to about 60,000 plugins. Another difference between the two is the implementation. Many WordPress plugins can be used immediately after downloading, depending on the functionality and size of course. This is because there are generally fewer configuration options. With symfony bundles you generally have to spend more time on the implementation. But you often have more configuration options.
Creating Symfony Pages VS Creating WordPress Page
When creating pages, WordPress and Symfony also have some common ground. At Symfony you use Twig to create pages. Twig is a flexible template language, meaning you can easily create PHP templates using blocks. Twig is also being developed by the same people who make Symfony. WordPress, on the other hand, only lets you work in HTML. But WordPress does have a lot of “drag and drop” builder, which means that you can easily drag blocks with no knowledge of HTML.
Symfony VS WordPress in the short term
In the short, there are several pros and cons to both options. In general, WordPress is faster to deploy due to its themes, plugins, and “drag and drop builder”. Symfony, on the other hand, generally takes a little longer to set up, but you do have more freedom in what you do.
Symfony VS WordPress in the long run
In the long run, WordPress is sometimes harder to run out of because it has a static structure. Another disadvantage of WordPress is that it is often very heavy and slow to run. This is because WordPress is very general and has features for many different types of sites. Symfony, on the other hand, is very flexible and it is very easy to build new functionality on top of an existing website. It is also very light to turn because you only use what you need and no more. It's just more difficult to work with for people with little or no development knowledge
Conclusion
WordPress and Symfony both have their pros and cons. For WordPress, the advantages are: ease of use through simple plugins and themes, quickly deployable, and little development knowledge required. The advantages for Symfony are: easy to run, fast, many customization options, easy to expand existing (Symfony) website.
Which one is best for you?
When making this choice, it is important to think about what you want now and what you want in the future in terms of data structure. If you are dealing with many different things that you want to store data on. In this case symphony is recommended. If it is a website that makes you visible online, WordPress is probably an easier option.
